Some people experience post-COVID problems with their eyesight. A study of 229 people with a SARS-CoV-2 infection reported that 72% of participants reported ocular symptoms during the acute phase, more specifically 31% suffered from light sensitivity, 24.9% itchy eyes and 24.5% experienced eye pain. Symptoms mainly occurred bilaterally within the first 2 weeks after infection and, in 80% of cases, symptoms disappeared 2 weeks after infection. A review of the literature shows cases of COVID-19-related conjunctivitis and inflammation of the retina and other parts of the eye. Post-COVID vision problems may be due to direct viral infection.
